Ayurveda offers a systematic approach in treatment of the cases of addiction and recommends Ayurvedic medicines, personal counselling, light exercises, yoga and meditation, as part of the de-addiction therapy. In Ayurveda  therapy, the diagnosis of addiction is always made in detail with complete understanding of person’s medical history, since how long he / she is addicted, his / her family’s medial history, habits, routine, sleeping pattern, diet, physical strength etc. After collecting all the necessary details, there would be a session with the Vaidya or the Ayurvedic physician to estimate and understand the imbalance in the Tridosha level (Vata, Pitta, Kapha doshas) in the patient’s body. In Ayurveda it is believed that most of the diseases /problems are caused by imbalance in these doshas. Also, the diagnosis may consist of blood, urine and some other necessary clinical tests. Some other diagnosis techniques used in Ayurveda are diagnosis of Nadi or the Pulse diagnosis and also the Analysis of tongue, eye and nails. Through these diagnostic measures, the person’s body type and individual tendencies can be ascertained well before the Ayurvedic therapies for de-addiction are performed. Ayurvedic Treatment for De – Addiction includes counselling and uprooting the cause, counselling for de-addiction, balancing the aggravated dosha, improving the metabolism, strengthening the immune system, detoxification, relaxation and rejuvenation.
