Ayurvedic Rasayana therapies follow Panchakarma, nourishes and reinforces the body. This helps to strengthen the mind, improve concentration and the functional ability of the mind. Also, Rasayanas help in rejuvenating the body and restoring the doshas by focusing on diet regimes and herbal medicines. Ayurveda recommends diet rich in proteins, carbohydrates but low in fats, comprising of fiber rich food and raw vegetables. Fresh fruits like apples, grapes, dates help limit cravings and foods like nuts, whole grains, green vegetables, rich in vitamin B 6 are advised. The Vaidya or the Ayurveda practitioner might ask the individual to refrain from the habit of tea and coffee. Addictive problems which need oral drug administration are treated with herbal medicines and their combinations. In this treatment, two main herbs used in this therapy are Chamomile and Ashwagandha. Other congestion relieving herbs like ginger, pepper with combination of honey and lemon are also used in this therapy. Herbal substitutes using turmeric, barberry, dry ginger have been most effective in reducing craving and dependency.
