Healing Through Ayurveda And Yoga
Ayurveda and Yoga therapies together make brilliant healthcare scenario both for combating diseases as well as preventing the same. 1. Yoga Case Study On Back Pain
A case study was conducted at the Dr. Deepak Sachdeva’s Medical Yoga Centre, 6/1, Jaidev Park, Punjabi, Delhi with Partner ‘Medical Yoga Association’. A patient named Sachin Mehrotra was suffering from the disease ankylosing spondylitis along with other symptoms like pain in whole spine, pain was in the hip joints and knee joints and also at the back of the thighs, could not turn his neck, pain and stiffness in neck and shoulders, shortness of breath after a few steps, travelling issues, could not fold legs or sit down on the floor, lack of confidence etc. He had undergone a previous 5 years of regular allopathic treatment and was also advised to follow other treatments like 6 months of Naturopathy treatment, Physiotherapy for 6 months, Ayurvedic treatment for 1 year and a massage treatment for 1 month. After the clinical check-up & going through patient s medical reports, medically modified asanas (yoga poses) mentioned as follows were prescribed:
1st to 4th week
Static Supta Padangusht asana 1, 2, 3
Bhek asana 1
Reverse urdvahasta asana (sitting) with grill
Anschalan
5th to 10th week
Oblique arm stretch with rope & grill
Supta ekpad gomukh asana with red belt
Vipreet karni 2 with stool & 2 pillows
Shavasana with spinal roll
Adhomukh shvaan asana with rope
These Yoga asanas showed progressive improvement where the pain in lower back was completely gone also there wasn’t any difficulty in walking and no shortness of breath. He also gained confidence and was able to fold legs & sit on the floor & turn his neck with lesser pain & lesser stiffness in neck & shoulders.
2. Yoga Case Study on Spondylitis
Another case study was done at the same centre of Dr. Deepak Sachdeva’s Medical Yoga Centre in association with the Medical Yoga Association on the patient Samir Biyani suffering from Spondylitis since the past twenty years. In 2007, he became bed-ridden and couldn’t lift his hands at all and couldn’t walk properly. It took him ten minutes to turn to the other side while sleeping. His backbone had stooped and he was in constant ache & had been hospitalized 6 times in 2008. He was prescribed certain ASANAS, which are as follows:
First 6 weeks
Skandh bandh asana
Kati bandh asana
Hast chalan
Ans chalan
Rope jacket 1, 2, 3
7th to 12th week
Supta Padangusht asana 1, 2, with wall
Bhek asana
Urdvahasta asana (sitting) with grill
Ans chalan
After the treatment he was able to lift his hands freely and can move freely. There was no pain in lower back and was on no medication.
3. Yoga Case Study on Stress and Body Pains
A 43 years old female patient suffering from High stress levels, overweight and indigestion was treated with medical yoga sessions at a special 6 day stress and body pain relief camp. A sequence of medically modified asanas was prescribed to her were as follows:
Suptaveer asana
Sputa baddhkon asana
Vipreet dandasana
Vipreet karni 2 with one chair
These series of asanas helped her to increase the energy of the heart chakra, & relax the nervous of the body. It also improved digestion, cardiac conditions, hormonal imbalance and respiratory disorder. This also helped to release the stiffness in the lumbar region muscles.
4. Yoga Case Study on Obesity And Diabetes
A 56 years old housewife was detected with high B.P., Diabetes, pain on both the knees and lower part of the legs, Difficulty to sit down or stand up, dust allergy, Back pain, Obesity, difficulty to climb up stairs; gasping and breathlessness after climbing a few steps. She showed an impressive recovery after the 20 sessions of yoga her B.P. came down to normal (120/ 70), and her sugar level has come down to moderate level PPBS 164 mg.
5. Yoga Case Study on Heart Disease
Abstract- Effect of Yoga training package on Heart Patients.
Result- Blood Pressure & Blood Cholesterol reduced
Exercise time on the Stress test increased
Overall relief of about 90%
