Forgiveness

Once there came a patient at my clinic complaining of severe body pains. When I asked him to be more specific about which part is paining, he told me that his each and every body part is aching and terribly painful. I had to then ask him to demonstrate pain in specific body parts by touching his body with his finger. And to my surprise, wherever he touched, he yelled with pain. Be it his stomach, his chest, his legs, his head or even his hands, he was seemingly cynical. As a doctor who had to offer treatment to the ailing patient, I had then decided to double check his condition and therefore repeated the entire process of identifying pain in his body. And to my utter dismay and also relief, wherever I touched and inquired, there was absolutely no pain. It was only then that I could realize that there is no pain in his body; rather pain is only in his finger. Wherever he touched the ailing finger, it pains. And this leaves him perplexed that his entire body is painful.

Do we have a Choice?

As in the case with this particular patient, are we not somehow treading the emotion of pain and suffering? We are surely exasperating and exaggerating our grievance. But what is wrong in this? If we feel pain, we have to scream. If we are hurt, we are sure to retaliate. If there is a bad memory, we would simply cry. If the world has been inflicting immorality, we tend to become sensitive. And so on and so forth. But the question remains – Are we born to Suffer?

The karma Connection

We are surely paying the debt. And the ‘debt’ is for sure not the giving of the world. This is ‘our’ own debt and we will have to pay. This would be experienced in any form as some worldly misgiving, some hurt, some betrayal, some physical injury, some mental trauma or some indigestible words of misfortune. Whatever that comes our way, we have to accept. Does this mean that we need to all the time be prepared that something wrong is going to happen with us? No. On the contrary, it has to be just the other way round. Prepare yourself with the mind-set that the best is in the making for you!

Pain is Inevitable but Suffering is Optional

Forgiveness

Someone asked Sri Sri Ravi Shankar that how he could feel the state of real happiness. The answer was – “You will feel real happiness at the time when nobody else is the reason for your happiness and also nobody can take it away from you.”

The pain that you are forced upon today is inevitable. There is no rescue than to accept the pain.

Take the Blame

Forgiveness
If you want to learn the art of forgiveness, it is very important to ‘take the blame’. The pain will not release you from its clutches if you are not prepared to imbibe it by all means. There was a young man whose car broke down in an accident and he was saved. But the pain would not leave him. He was so much overwhelmed by the emotion of the pain of having lost his car that he could not realize the gratitude of having been saved and gifted with a new life altogether. The reason was that he would not agree to ‘take the blame’. And obviously, he was suffering when there was no fault of his at all. But for months together, the pain was his gain and not the blessing.

Forgive to Forget

This young man could not recover the biggest loss of his life. He had lost his brand new SUV when someone else was driving rashly and had hit him unawares. Nothing in him would let him forgive the wrongdoer. Less did he realize that the offender was now part and parcel of his own entity. Sadly the young man went into long episodes of depression and finally landed into asylum where he met the wise one who could salvage the patient only by the simple perception of making him to take the blame.

God does not want you to Suffer

Forgiveness

We are not born to suffer. We are gifted with yet another human life with the golden chance to be able to release the accrual of the Karma. And the easy way out is every time pain inflicts you, wind back into the security and happiness of the present moment that you are blessed with. The present that you are blessed with surely allays the fears of the past and insecurities of the future. God does not want you to suffer. You are His chosen one. The pain that you would be yielding is mainly to make you strong and balance the cycle of Karma that you have been carrying with yourself since so many lives. You will be free and you will be happy with whatever the circumstances by accepting your karma and taking the blame. Forgive first and then forget. Be grateful and love un-conditionally.

Always remember, you are not born to suffer. But you are born so that you can gain all the strength that the cycles of karma demands so as to be neutralized by your worthy deeds and positive emotion.
