Suffering From gingival inflammation? Try Mouthwash with Haldi

Gingival inflammation is a non-destructive oral disease which leads to swelling in the gums. It is a rather mild form of a gum disease, which can easily be prevented and cured. Most of the symptoms of gingivitis appear as any regular case of inflammation. That is perhaps why gingivitis is often referred to as gingival inflammation. Nonetheless, you must take the symptoms of this inflammation seriously and take measures to treat them.

What Causes Gingival Inflammation?

More often than not, it is caused by the oral bacteria called as ‘bacterial biofilms’ found in plaque. When the film of plaque accumulates on the teeth, it gradually causes the gingiva, the part of your gum around the base of your teeth, to swell. This plaque induced gingivitis, therefore, is the most common form of gingivitis.

Reasons could be many

The presence of plaque can be owed to a poor oral hygiene. Poor nutrition and unhealthy eating habits, irregular brushing and not understanding the importance of visiting your dentist for a general check up every few months could be some of them. Besides, smoking or chewing tobacco also causes the gums to swell over a period of time. Dry mouth, old age, hormonal changes and hereditary factors also play some role in the gingival inflammation to surface. Besides, the longer you allow the plaque to deposit on your teeth, the more it is likely to affect your gingiva, eventually causing gum inflammation.

The Symptoms

  • Swelling and puffiness in the gums
  • Irritation and burning sensation in and around gums
  • Receding gums
  • Frequent bleeding, even and especially after gentle brushing or flossing
  • Painful and tender gums
  • Gums turning bright red or even purple
  • Unpleasant mouth odour
  • Bacterial Infection
  • Ulceration in gums

The Complications

Although gingivitis is a reversible disease which can be cured by means of medication and good oral hygiene, there are several complications associated with it. Recurring gingivitis is one of them, wherein the inflammation becomes most likely to reappear. Gum infection, appearance of abscess and even ulcers of the gums are common problems being experienced by those suffering from prolonged gingivitis. Over a period of time, gingival inflammation can even lead to the problem of periodontitis. This not only causes tissue destruction, but also contributes towards bone resorption around the teeth. The prolonged problem of periodontitis can even lead to loss of teeth.

Managing gingival inflammation with Cure and Care

Apart from adopting various commercial solutions thronging the marketplace that are believed to provide remedy for the problem of gingivitis, there are several home cures you could adopt to gain relief. Apart from maintaining a good oral hygiene, you could use a DIY mouthwash that rids your mouth of the plaque causing bacteria in the first place. These include –

  • Salt water treatment
  • Oil pulling options
  • Mouth rinses such as Aloe vera mouthwash, Lemongrass mouthwash, Tea tree oil mouthwash, etc
  • Topical application of herbal ointment, etc

You should be able to see improvement within a few days of beginning with the treatment. However, it does take little while for the signs and symptoms to completely disappear, usually about two weeks.

Turmeric – The Ultimate Solution to Inflammatory Problems

Turmeric (Haridra/Haldi) is a versatile herb that has long been used for various culinary and curative purposes. This golden spice belongs to the ginger family, and gives a warm, peppery taste to the dish, with a distinct yellow hue. No wonder why it stands tall on almost all kitchen shelves in Indian households, and increasingly, the world over.

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of alternative medication has long recognised Turmeric for various healing and health promoting properties. These include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, anti bacterial, anti fungal, antibiotic, to name a few. Turmeric owes most of these to the presence of this bioactive compound called curcumin. Perhaps, that is why turmeric is also known as Curcuma longa.

Turmeric Mouthwash Is Supportive

It is always better to use a herbal mouthwash solution which would be more effective than the counterpart. This is because it helps fight inflammation, irritation and goes a long way in keeping your oral health in check. And therefore turmeric could be actually useful in case of gingivital inflammation.

Benefits of Turmeric Mouthwash

Turmeric based herbal mouthwash is quite effective in case of various oral health problems, including chronic bad breath, plaque, tooth decay and especially, the gingival inflammation.
