Vata Dosha Imbalance? Know Amazing Potential Of Healing Through Music!

Could anyone ever imagine the power of healing, curing and optimising physical and mental health via a philanthropic approach of therapeutic music? Although Ayurveda suggests various tools to harmonize our inner energy, based on diet and lifestyle like taking to Panchakarma, using various herbs and spices and practicing yoga as well, there is another way to bring these doshas into perfect balance and harmony – the yoga of Music. Music therapy works wonders providing a very clinical and helpful approach to look into and fulfil the cognitive, physiological and psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of the dosha imbalanced persona.

Need of Balancing Vata

Vata is the prominent of all the three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and it is believed that without Vata the other two doshas would be like clouds in a stormy sky. Vata is responsible for all communication in the mind and body since two of its main characteristics are inconsistency and airiness. And yet Vata dosha can quickly go out of balance. Most of the diseases (80%) are caused by disturbed Vata. Among the physical diseases are joint pains and mental illnesses include fear, anxiety and nervousness. People with an overload of stress also frequently experience imbalance of the Vata dosha, which can be balanced if some rapid and meticulous action is taken. A hot cup of tea, oil massage or soothing, meditative music can bring quick relief. An ancient Indian text, Swara Sastra, says that the seventy-two ragas (parent ragas) control the seventy two important nerves in the body. If one sings with belief than it provides a persistent effect and helps to balance the dosha.

Vata Imbalance creates Havoc

When the Vata is imbalanced, there can be issues and symptoms that one can draw a conclusion from:

If a person believes he suffers from most of the above, there is a thorough need to bring his Vata in balance in order to bring about a balance of Kapha and Pitta and centred health.

Balancing Vata Dosha

General steps for a Vata-balancing Lifestyle

  • Live Life with awareness and gentle pace.
  • Regular daily routine is a must for balancing Vata dosha.
  • Abhyanga – daily 10–20 minute massage with some Vata balancing and waring oil.
  • Walking, yoga or gentle exercise routine that includes a calm, stretch-focused form of workout would help.
  • Keep yourself warm, no matter what the weather.
  • Soothing music to calm the nerves.

It is about using all the five senses to see, feel, hear, smell and taste the most sacrosanct basis Ayurvedic tradition. Eating the right food, herbs and spices along with getting an Abhyanga Ayurvedic massage therapy to activate the sense of touch, smelling aroma oils to awaken the element, seeing the beauty of nature in its best form along with listening to the ragas and music is recommended. All this originated from the culture of our Rishi – Munis and our ancient Vedic Sages who inherited the intelligence of recognizing the power of these frequencies and reflecting them in music.

Influence of Ragas

It is believed that the Ragas can balance all three doshas Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Although the Ayurveda doshas are highly significant and essential for your natural health and well-being, Vata is considered vital and the most imperative to be kept in balance.  Vata dosha or the air body humor is the leader of all other humors in the human body, and this particular dosha defines motion and flow in the body. Therefore, blood circulation, elimination of wastes, movement of thoughts across the mind and respiratory processes are all due on a balanced, happy and healthy vata. Also, the other two doshas Pitta and kapha can function effectively only when the Vata dosha is in balance.

Balancing Vata with Music Therapy

Research says that Music has been used for alleviating pain in hospitals instead of the use of anaesthesia. Gandharva Veda music offers different ragas and music for all the 24 hours of the day, with each raga for each time having a different and unique effect on the mind-body-soul.

Morning ragas are energising and evening ragas are relaxing, with an overall and required effect on the blood circulations, metabolism rate, balance of the imbalanced doshas, heart rate, bodily processes and overall the flow and motion of thoughts in the mind and balance of all bodily elements and senses. Raga Hindol, Gandharva and Raga Vasant give relief to problems in Vata Imbalance, Blood pressure, Gastritis, blood impurities.

Gandharva Raga for Balancing Vata

Gandharva Veda raga can be typically denoted as music therapy for the alive- used in various compositions and frequencies, tunes and in forms of nodes and notations that can be soothing for various elements in the human body and bringing in balance the different doshas while rubbing off symptoms of imbalance.
