1. Purvakarma
This is a pre-treatment technique that helps to prepare the body to eliminate the ama /toxins. The first step is Snehana (oleation) that involves saturating the body with medicated oils, to loosen the toxins to move from deeper tissues in the gastrointestinal tract. Abhyanga (external oleation) involves body massage with medicated oils, followed by Swedana (steaming) to dilate the channels for easy removal of ama.
2. Pradhankarma
This is second step after Purvakarma. In the Panchakarma detox program, Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapies like Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Basti (enema) and Nasya (nose cleaning) are accomplished to remove the integrated toxins through normal body channels.
3. Paschatkarma
This is the third step that is related to recommendation and following of correct diet and healthy lifestyle to re-establish body’s natural immunity and metabolism. This post treatment procedure should not be ignored as it may lead to de-stabilization of the digestion process and continuous production of ama in the body. It is suggested that post treatment the food intake should also be light and nourishing, and returning to normal life and diet habits should be slow and gradual.

Panchakarma at the Ayurveda Centre or Ayurveda resort starts with a consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner who will do an exam, pulse diagnosis, and health history. A series of treatments and internal purification procedures with recommended herbal decoctions will be recommended to help soften the impurities and prepare the physiology to move toxins out.
