Solitude

Why Solitude Is A Bliss?

Let’s begin with a few questions. What does solitude mean to you? Does it mean getting away from the hustle and bustle of life, or does it mean a blissful experience away from the frenetic pace of life? Your answers may vary. So, let’s look at solitude from a completely new perspective.

In the dictionary, the literal synonym for solitude is loneliness. But you will never feel lonely in solitude once you are able to identify with the real significance of the word.

Why So?

We humans are dependent on external factors. They may be our kith and kin, everyday comforts, job, food, finances, security, emotions and attitude — almost everything that touches our day-to-day lives. And knowingly or unknowingly, this makes us attached to all that is perceived as ‘ours’.

The problem is that somehow all that we feel is ‘ours’ is actually the other way around. It’s we who belong to all these sources of attachment more than they belong to us.

This leads us to the point of detachment. Detachment is the growth of one’s inner self. Only when you are detached are you able to acknowledge every passing moment and be prepared to live in that single moment that life brings forth. Detachment does not mean that one has no feelings and emotions. It means one loves without getting possessive and dependent.

Solitude

The philosophy is expressed beautifully in the song Solitude is Bliss by Tame Impala. It goes:

“Space around me where my soul can breathe
I’ve got body but my mind can leave
Nothing else matters, I don’t care what I miss
Company’s okay, Solitude is bliss…”

Solitude Is A Favour You Could Give Yourself

This is because in being alone, you are actually able to connect with your soul. As and when you are able to break free from worldly affairs, you will find yourself enjoying the serenity and peace of being all by yourself. This means you are answerable to none other than yourself. During these times of solitude, you can be your best friend, guide and soul mate.

This is also the time you can fearlessly focus on yourself. You can understand all your suppressed desires better and at the same time connect and understand all that is obscured and hidden within you.

Moments of Solitude

There must be some things that you have somehow ignored in your busy routine or your self-imposed priorities. Why not let moments of solitude become moments of serenity? This is the best possible time when you are particularly in harmony with your own mortal being. You are human and as human as anybody else. You have your individual hopes, dreams and desires. It might be some particular hobby, which you have distanced in the swiftness of life’s daily schedules. Maybe you’d love to dance, or sing, or write — whatever be your source of creativity — solitude bestows on you those takeaway moments in which you can dwell as well as immerse yourself in.

Difference Between Solitude And Loneliness

But the best part of solitude is self-awareness — thus making solitude bliss. Loneliness, on the other hand, segregates you and leaves you in an abyss of apprehensions. It also makes you highly reactive and emotional.

While solitude sanctifies your being with utmost sanguinity and balance, nurturing the core of your heart with delight and contentment, loneliness leaves you feeling deprived and remorseful. In a nutshell: while solitude refreshes and replenishes you, loneliness only drains you.

The Spiritual Gains

The best possible bliss that one has discovered in solitude is the ability to connect with the Supreme. The moments of solitude need to be considered the Almighty’s bounty, as they give you the time and space to connect with the actual concord and rhythm of your holistic self, which eventually uplifts your body, mind and spirit.

Besides, solitude is sure ecstasy, which puts you in the receptive mode of self-transformation. You are at peace with yourself and with the world around you. You acknowledge your basic existence as an extension of the vast universe. Not only this, living in harmony with solitude for whatever little time you can afford, will enable you to be full of unconditional love and gratitude towards the Supreme Consciousness.

So, are you ready to experience the bliss of solitude?
